An independent review of the July 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, found in October 2024 that the Secret Service had grown "complacent and static," faulted its communications and failure to secure the building the gunman fired from, and warned "another Butler can and will happen again" without reform.
