Volcano eruption in Indonesia leaves 170,000 travellers stranded as eight airports closed

Indonesia's Anak Krakatau volcano erupted, sending ash across the region and forcing the closure of eight airports, including Jakarta's main airport. The eruption stranded about 170,000 travelers and canceled nearly 3,000 flights. Though the volcanic activity has since eased, authorities kept several airports closed and shifted schools to remote learning as a precaution. Flights to and from Jakarta resumed after a two-day closure.
