Why is the US trade deficit getting bigger?

The United States trade deficit—the gap between what it imports and exports, reached $105.6 billion in August. This was the largest monthly deficit since before tariffs were introduced under Trump, and it exceeded economists' expectations. The deficit grew by $12.7 billion compared to July.
