Russia halts strikes on Ukraine’s Kherson as Oleshky ceasefire takes effect
Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a temporary ceasefire in the area around Oleshky, a town in occupied territory. The ceasefire was secured with help from US First Lady Melania Trump and Pope Francis, and is intended to allow humanitarian aid to reach the area and enable civilians to evacuate. Russia has now halted its strikes on the nearby city of Kherson as the ceasefire takes effect.
