The US has stepped in to buy Japanese yen. Why?
The U.S. Treasury bought Japanese yen to support the currency, which had fallen to very low levels. This was the first time the U.S. and Japan coordinated this kind of intervention in more than a decade. The U.S. said the move was a signal of friendship.
