Congress has failed to regulate AI for years – and there’s little sign that’s changing
Tech companies and Democratic leaders have called for Congress to regulate artificial intelligence, warning about potential harms if the industry is left to police itself. In December 2024, a bipartisan congressional task force studying AI risks issued 85 recommendations for how lawmakers could act. Despite these warnings and recommendations, Congress has not passed AI regulation, and there are few signs that this will change soon.
