Nobel medicine prize goes to 3 scientists for research into brain activity
Three scientists have been awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine for their research on optogenetics, a field of neuroscience that studies how the brain controls nerve cell activity. The recipients are Karl Deisseroth, a US psychiatrist and neurologist, and two German scientists, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel. Their work focuses on the mechanisms that allow the brain to switch individual nerve cells on and off. The prize was announced on Monday.
