EU has a ‘strong plan’ to retaliate on Trump tariffs, says von der Leyen

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on April 1, 2025, that the European Union had a strong plan to retaliate if President Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on it, though she said a negotiated solution was preferable. The bloc already planned duties on about $28 billion of U.S. goods in mid-April in response to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs.
