Curtis Flowers, a Black man, spent more than 22 years in prison on death row in Mississippi. The U.S. Supreme Court threw out his conviction and death sentence after finding that Black people had been unconstitutionally excluded from the jury in his sixth trial. He was released following this ruling. Flowers has now died at age 56.
