86-year-old Shelby County man dies after contracting West Nile Virus

An 86-year-old man has died after he became Shelby County's first known human case of West Nile Virus in 2026. The Shelby County Health Department announced via its website that it confirmed the virus contributed to man's death on Sept. 11.
