Background
Nidal Malik Hasan, a US Army major and psychiatrist, opened fire inside a soldier-processing center at Fort Hood, Texas, on November 5, 2009, killing 13 people and wounding more than 30, and was convicted in 2013.[1] In October 2026 the Pentagon said that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had recommended his execution by firing squad and that President Donald Trump had approved it; the acting Army secretary said it would take place at Fort Hood on December 3.[1][2]
