Background

Caleb Flynn, 40, was charged with aggravated murder, assault and tampering with evidence in the February 2026 shooting of Ashley Flynn at the family's home in Tipp City, Ohio,[1] and pleaded not guilty.[4] His trial began with jury selection in September, and the first day brought two very different accounts: prosecutors said he shot his wife while she slept.[5]

When testimony began, prosecutors said Flynn had carried on a yearslong affair and had messaged the woman about thoughts of killing his wife.[2] The woman, Alleigha Botner, testified about more than 100,000 messages[6] and said he had talked about wanting Ashley Flynn dead.[7] Jurors heard his recorded police interview,[6] a grandmother testified that the couple's two daughters seemed nervous after speaking privately with their father,[8] and an FBI witness said there was no evidence for his claim that his wife had been unfaithful.[9]

The defense rested without calling any witnesses.[10] On September 29, the jury found Flynn guilty of murder and other charges,[1][3] and he was due to be sentenced in early October.[3]
